2017-04-04 - City Recognizes 100th Anniversary of Vimy Ridge

On April 9, the City of Charlottetown will illuminate its bell tower with green, light blue, dark blue and red to represent the coloured badges of the four Canadian Divisions that fought at Vimy Ridge.

The 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge is on April 9, 2017 and the country will mark the occasion with commemorative ceremonies and events at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France and the National War Memorial in Ottawa.

"We honor the many men and women who have served this country, making sacrifices so the rest of us can live in safety and in peace," said Charlottetown Mayor Clifford. "Our veterans and those who continue to serve are the reason we are able to continue to live in a peaceful, democratic society and we thank them for everything they have done and continue to do."

Sites across Canada will participate in the illumination, a project spear headed by the Vimy Foundation. The Vimy Foundation is a charitable foundation whose mission is to preserve and promote Canada’s First World War legacy, best symbolized with the victory at Vimy Ridge in April 1917.
