The City of Charlottetown extends congratulations to T3 Transit for breaking the daily passenger record in Charlottetown on Wednesday, July 13.
A total of 2,220 passengers were recorded in one day along the city’s transit routes, breaking the previous record of 1,977 recorded during the winter.
"It is very encouraging to see increased ridership within T3 Transit system," says Deputy Mayor Mike Duffy, Chair of Environment and Sustainability Committee. "Transit has become a primary form of transportation for many residents and tourists and we believe ridership numbers have increased along with the announcement of the ‘Park and Ride’ program and our continued partnership with T3 Transit. Congratulations to Mike Cassidy and all the T3 staff on this new record."
T3 Transit started September 30, 2005, with a four bus route system. Today there are eleven busses at peak times providing service to the three communities of Cornwall, Stratford and Charlottetown. Passenger numbers have been strong this summer with the record breaking number on Wednesday of last week and over 2000 passengers on Thursday, July 14.
"It only took a few months to beat the old record of 1,977 passenger fares recorded this winter, " says Mike Cassidy, owner of T3 Transit. "The drivers could feel a big day coming as daily ridership has been very strong this year with 15% increases some months. I can remember 10 years ago," reflects Cassidy, "when we would wonder if 500 daily passengers could ever be possible. Now, with a new record of 2,220 we will have to set a new objective and try to achieve 2,500 passenger fares per day."
