Gardening in Small Spaces Workshop:

go!PEI

Brought to you by go!PEI and the Charlottetown Parks and Recreation Department

The Victoria Park Ball Field Club House (off Brighton Road)

Event Details: Minigarden Workshop and Planting Demo by Shaman Ferraro - FREE of charge. The workshop will include discussions on maximizing plant production using minigarden kits, watering methods and managing the plants within the minigarden system. Shaman will also share his ideas on using the kits for food production.

There will be a planting demonstration of a minigarden "kitchen" kit.

Vegetable Planters - participants are welcome to help with the planting of the vegetable planters by City Diamond. Recipes will be available for some of the more unique vegetables being planted. If you have some favorite recipes, bring them along to swap.

Giveaways include a minigarden and a rain barrel!

Living Walls - Presentation and discussion by Shaman Ferraro

Event Details: Vegetated wall systems (also known as "green" or living walls) are an emerging industry that promote sustainable design and the preservation and re-integration of nature into human development. This integration of plant life into modern design makes living walls an interesting and functional addition to any space. Join us at Upstreet to learn the ins and outs of this trendy live design feature with expert Shaman Ferraro. No registration or cost of entry.

About the speaker: Shaman recently returned to PEI after working abroad in Ontario's green roof and living wall industry. He is an accredited green roof professional, LEED green associate and the only member of Construction Specification Canada in PEI. During his career in Ontario, Shaman had established the living wall division of Canada's largest green roof installer, developed two living walls systems and acted as the Southern Ontario representative for four international living wall manufacturers. He returned home to PEI in November 2016 to start his own business and provide living wall and green roof services across Atlantic Canada.

Event Details: East Coast Art Party is a social painting experience. The painting of the evening will be Garden themed in honor of Charlottetown Garden Days. Reserve your spot in advance at https://pei.eastcoastartparty.com/. Events are $30 per person plus HST and includes everything you need to produce a painting.

Charlottetown Garden Days Workshops:

Charlottetown Garden Days Workshops - FULL

All workshops are now full.

Attend one... attend them all! Each registrant will plant and take home a small container garden at each session. There is a limit of 25 registrants per session.

Small containers, plants and seeds will be provided. Decorating material for the fairy gardens will be provided but we encourage you to bring a couple of your favorite small trinkets to add to your garden.

There will also be paints, decorations and things from nature (leaves, cones, pine needles, etc.) available to decorate the outside of your container.

Xeriscaping for the Homeowner - Presentation by Jamey Smith and Cyndy MacCormac of Island Coastal

Farm Centre, 420 University Avenue

Event Details: Plant your own xeriscaping garden. Create a beautiful container garden that requires very little water and maintenance. Participants will learn tips on how to prepare the soil for moisture retention and how to select native and nonnative plants that require fewer supplemental inputs such as water, fertilizers and deadheading.

Fairy Garden - Presentation by Jamey Smith and Cyndy MacCormac of Island Coastal

Event Details: Inviting kids of all ages to come and plant a fairy garden. Create an enchanting little garden with fun trinkets and plants. Decorating items will be provided but we encourage you to bring a couple of your own favorite small toys or trinkets to put in your garden.

Event Details: Plant your own veggie container. Even small containers can provide a surprising amount of food. Learn about growing and planting vegetables for food and seed.

Pollinator Gardens - Presentation by Karen Murchison

Event Details: Plant a pollinator container. Attract butterflies, hummingbirds, bees and other pollinators to your yard! Most plants need pollinators to be able to produce fruits and seed which is an important source of food for humans and wildlife. The plants and pollinators will bring beauty to your yard too!

Adopt a Barrel

10:00 - 11:30am
Charlottetown Fire Department, Kent Street (green space between Fire Department and the Rodd Charlottetown)

Event Details: Sponsorship of each barrel is $150. The barrels are planted by representatives from sponsoring companies or individuals. Each barrel will be identified by a name plate. Barrels, soil, watering, fertilizing, plant maintenance, and name plates will be provided by the City's Beautification staff. Barrels will be placed by city staff on the Victoria Park boardwalk. Participating companies must provide their own flowers.

Make our Hometown Beautiful (formerly Make Charlottetown Bloom)

The City of Charlottetown, in partnership with Communities in Bloom, encourages residents each year to apply or nominate entrants for the Make Our Hometown Beautiful program. Each category will be judged on its unique features, variety and color of flowers, design and overall aesthetics. Evidence of environmentally friendly, sustainable practices are encouraged.
