Benefits of Composting

Composting is the decomposition of grass clippings, garden refuse, kitchen scraps, fallen leaves, manure, etc to make an earthy, dark, crumbly substance.  This substance is excellent for adding to houseplants or enriching garden soil.  Some of the many benefits to composting are:

    • Helps to maintain a healthy soil pH so that plants grow better and lawns stay greener
    • Great source of plant nutrients
    • Has excellent water retention
    • Keeps earthworms content so that they can go about their work of aerating the soil
    • Reduces green house gas emissions
    • Reduces soil erosion
    • Stimulates root development
    • Reduces the volume of waste sent to landfills
    • It is environmentally friendly and it is easy
